Learn more →What Queensland requires
Maintained at the intervals the rules set
In Queensland, the occupier of a building must have its prescribed fire safety installations maintained by an appropriately qualified person, at the intervals in the Queensland Development Code (MP 6.1) — which calls up AS 1851.
Maintenance records must be kept, and an occupier statement given to the Queensland Fire Department at least once a year. We keep the servicing side of that in your portal, ready when it's due.

How often does a fire alarm system need servicing?
AS 1851 sets routine activities for fire detection and alarm systems at monthly, six-monthly, yearly and five-yearly intervals, with different checks at each. The exact schedule depends on your system and building — we'll set it out in your service plan.
Do fit-out changes affect our sprinklers?
They can. Partitions, racking, mezzanines and new ceilings can block or change coverage. Tell us what's planned and we'll check what's needed before the work starts.
How often do fire extinguishers need servicing?
Under AS 1851, portable fire extinguishers are inspected six-monthly, with pressure testing and overhaul at longer intervals depending on the extinguisher type.
Can we prop our fire doors open?
Only if they're fitted with an approved hold-open device that releases when the alarm sounds. A wedged-open fire door is one of the most common — and most avoidable — fire door problems.
Is this an accredited course?
Our sessions are practical onsite instruction tailored to your site. If your building needs formally qualified fire wardens or a fire safety adviser, ask us and we'll talk through the options.
