RCD and safety switch testing
Safety switches only protect people if they trip fast enough. We push-button test and trip-time test the RCDs across your site and log every result.
Services we provide
- Push-button (user) testing
- Operating-time (trip-time) testing
- RCD schedule and labelling checks
- Faulty RCD identification and replacement
- A test record for every RCD
Why it matters
Queensland's Electrical Safety Regulation 2026 sets testing intervals for safety switches in workplaces, depending on the class of work and whether the safety switch is fixed or portable.
Regularly tested safety switches also matter for test and tag — in office and service work, equipment protected by a tested safety switch is treated differently.
Queensland safety switch testing intervals
| Class of work | Safety switch | Push-button test | Operating-time test |
|---|---|---|---|
| Construction | Fixed | 1 month | 12 months |
| Construction | Portable | Daily or before each use | 3 months |
| Manufacturing | Fixed | 6 months | 12 months |
| Office | Fixed | 6 months | 2 years |
| Office | Portable | 3 months | 2 years |
| Service (other than cleaning) | Fixed or portable | 6 months | 2 years |

FAQ
RCD / Safety Switch Testing: common questions
Can't see your question? Call 07 3916 4344 and talk to the team.
Will RCD testing cut the power?
Trip-time testing briefly cuts power to each protected circuit. We plan the order and timing with you to keep disruption low.
How often do safety switches need testing?
For fixed safety switches in office work, a push-button test every six months and an operating-time test every two years. Construction, manufacturing and portable devices are tested more often — see the table above.
What if an RCD fails?
We record it and replace it, so the circuit isn't left unprotected.
